Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 37-year-old environmental scientist who recently spent three weeks conducting research in the jungles. A few days after returning home, I developed a fever, chills, and body aches. Yesterday, I noticed a small sore with a dark center on my arm and started feeling increasingly weak. I have also developed a red, patchy rash on my chest and back. Could this be scrub typhus or another infection related to my trip? What should I do next, and is this something serious?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
From the symptoms listed above, fever, body chills, headache, small spores with a dark center, and your recent trip, we suspect we might be dealing with Lyme's disease.
This is a bacterial infection caused by the bite of a Borrelia burgdorferi.
The symptoms include:
Rash (erythema migrans).
Fever.
Headache.
Fatigue.
Muscle and joint pain.
I advise you to do the following:
Use of antibiotics like capsules or tablets, such as Doxycycline (Tetracycline).
Over-the-counter pain relievers.
The preventive measure to be used
Use protective clothing when going to areas with tick habitat.
Use insect repellent.
The probable causes include:
Borrelia burgdorferi.
I suggest you do the following test:
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay)
I advise you to come for a follow-up in two weeks.
Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
