What could cause dryness on the forehead and hairline?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter has developed dryness on her forehead and also in her hairline. Please see the pictures attached. We have had a nanoplastia (hair straightening) treatment for her hair. But this problem started after she shifted to the hostel.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I went through your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

However, your image is not very clear, and you did not inform me about itching and other symptoms in detail. From your description, it appears to be seborrheic dermatitis. The probable cause is idiopathic. The investigation to be done is KOH (potassium hydroxide) scraping. The differential diagnosis is scalp psoriasis.

I suggest you do so by adhering to the recommendations below.

  • Use Ketoconazole (azole antifungals) and Zinc pyrithione (antifungal) shampoo once an alternate day. Keep it for 10 minutes before washing.

  • Use Mometasone furoate (corticosteroid) lotion once a day.

  • Take a tablet of Loratadine (antihistamine) 5 mg (milligrams) once daily if there is itching.

  • Avoid oil.

  • Review after four weeks with a clear image and video consultation.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Do get back in case of any further queries.

Thank you.
