Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I recently started using compounded Semaglutide for weight management, and after a few weeks, I began experiencing unusual neurological symptoms, such as tingling in my limbs and persistent headaches. My endocrinologist suspects that impurities in the compounded formulation could be contributing to these effects.
How common are such reactions with compounded Semaglutide compared to the branded version? Should I stop taking the medication immediately? Also, what tests would be helpful in confirming whether the medication is the cause of these symptoms? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Neurological symptoms such as tingling and headaches can be concerning and may indeed be related to impurities or inconsistent dosing in compounded formulations. These types of reactions are less commonly reported with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-)-approved versions like Wegovy, which undergo rigorous quality control for safety and efficacy.
Given the symptoms you are experiencing, it would be wise to discontinue the compounded Semaglutide immediately and consult your healthcare provider. They may recommend blood tests to check for potential impurities or adverse effects, as well as imaging studies if needed to rule out other possible causes.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
