Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 55-year-old with rheumatoid arthritis, currently being treated with Methotrexate and Prednisone. Seven weeks ago, I started using compounded semaglutide for weight management and have since lost 19 pounds. However, I have been experiencing increased joint pain and what seems to be an RA flare-up. I have also noticed unusual bruising and delayed wound healing. My rheumatologist is unfamiliar with compounded Semaglutide formulations. I am concerned about whether this medication could be interacting with my immunosuppressants or potentially triggering an autoimmune flare. What kind of monitoring would you recommend in this situation? I would appreciate guidance on how to balance weight management efforts with effective autoimmune disease control.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Compounded Semaglutide may interact with immunosuppressants like Methotrexate and Prednisone, potentially triggering autoimmune flare-ups. Increased joint pain, bruising, and delayed wound healing could be related to these interactions. It is essential to monitor your symptoms closely and consult with both your rheumatologist and primary care physician.
For balancing weight management with autoimmune disease control, consider regular check-ups, blood tests, and adjusting medication dosages as needed. A comprehensive approach involving diet, exercise, and medication management is crucial.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
