Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I received my semen analysis report today. Kindly review the report and advise me about it. Also, I would like to consult with you regarding the results.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I have gone through your reports (the attachments were removed to protect the patient's identity). Your semen report shows that your sperm count and total sperm numbers are good, but the main issue is with sperm morphology, which means the shape of sperm.
You have only one percent normal forms, while the normal reference is greater than four percent. The report clearly mentions an impression of teratozoospermia, which means abnormal sperm shape.
Motility is moderate and within an acceptable range, although rapid progressive motility is slightly lower than ideal.
This pattern means that natural pregnancy may be more difficult because abnormal morphology reduces the ability of the sperm to fertilize an egg. However, it does not mean you cannot have a baby. Many men with teratozoospermia still conceive naturally or with simple treatments.
Usually, doctors ask to repeat the test after three to five days of abstinence because a single report can vary. If the second report also shows low morphology, then treatment depends on your overall fertility plan.
Since your count and motility are fine, IUI (intrauterine insemination) may still work, but IVF (in vitro fertilization) with ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) gives the highest success because the embryologist selects a single healthy sperm for fertilization.
IVF is not mandatory immediately, but it is the most reliable option if you want to avoid waiting. If you want, you can send your repeat report later, and I will guide you clearly about the exact chances and the best option for planning your baby.
I hope this helps you.
Feel free to reach out to me anytime. I am here to help you.
Thank you.
