Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I finished my PEP a few weeks back after which I developed chronic tonsillitis. Can it be a seroconversion symptom? I have no rash, and no fever, but swollen lymph glands.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thank you for the query.
The chances of transmission of HIV by single unprotected oral sex are almost nil unless there are bleeding wounds in the oral cavity. If PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) has been initiated before time and the course is completed successfully, the risk is further reduced.
I hope the HIV tests after PEP completion, have come negative. The chances of HIV tests coming positive later are almost nil. But it would be better to go for an HIV antibody test after 90 days of exposure to be relieved of anxiety totally and have conclusive results. The symptoms are non-specific and are unlikely due to HIV. Please continue the management under your treating doctor.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for your reply.
I got myself tested on the 21st day after PEP was finished and it came negative. Are my chances of getting HIV very low?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thank you for the follow up query .
The chances of HIV tests coming positive later are almost nil with given test results and risk exposure. The symptoms are unlikely to be related to HIV. It is better to go for an HIV antibody test after 90 days of exposure to be relieved of anxiety totally and have conclusive results.
Hope this helps.
Thanks and regards.
