What is the average size of a penis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

In the last few months, almost a year, I have developed locker room syndrome, which has made me feel very insecure. This insecurity does not stem from events related to sexual experiences I have had in the past or recently. On the contrary, there has always been understanding with my sexual partners, and this continues with my current partner. I always thought I had an average-sized penis, but about a year ago, I started working out at the gym again and began comparing my size to other men. Online, I found various information and statistics: studies with different measurement methods, averages calculated on the penis in different states, and so on. Therefore, I decided to purchase a coupon for an andrological visit to ease my mind and calm this sense of insecurity and anxiety.

Upon arriving at the doctor's office and waiting almost an hour and a half before being seen, my visit began (about 15 minutes). After addressing my concerns, the andrologist proceeded with a quick measurement of my penis in its stretched state. At that moment, due to some discomfort, my penis appeared smaller than its usual size. The doctor discussed the general outcome at the end of the visit, explaining that my measurements were within the norm. However, he also mentioned that the official average size of a stretched penis is 5.24 inches (13.3 cm), placing me below average by approximately 0.28 inches (0.7 cm). This news immediately threw me into despair because, comparing myself with data found on the internet from official studies, my penis was slightly above average. After seeking clarification from the doctor, he stated that discussing the visit further was impossible since the package I purchased only included a routine andrological checkup. He added that I should book another appointment if I wanted to discuss doubts about size and lengthening.

Leaving the studio with really low morale, I had never thought that my penis should be subjected to enlargement practices. I want to emphasize that before suggesting lengthening, the andrologist specified that my dimensions were within the normal range. Despite this, the allusion to it generated even more insecurity in me. Furthermore, being accustomed to measuring my penis in an erect state by placing the ruler or tape on the pubis and pressing on the adipose tissue, I have always recorded measurements more significant than 6.3 inches up to 6.6 inches. Could you kindly tell me whether having a second consultation with another doctor is appropriate or whether my measurements are below average? This situation is causing me a lot of stress. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The average length of the penis varies from 2.5 to four inches in the flaccid state and 4.5 to 6.5 inches in the erect state, with a diameter of one inch. Studies recommend treatment for a flaccid penis length of fewer than 1.6 inches or an erect penis of fewer than three inches.

A longer size may not necessarily make females happy; it may cause discomfort. Like the glans penis is sensitive for males, the female sensation will be in the outer part two inches. A bigger or smaller penis does not affect making a female happy. Males experience an erotic sensation in the glans penis, while other parts (shaft) of the penis do not provide an erotic stimulus.

The most effective method for increasing size is surgical (liposuction around the pubic bone, skin grafts), injecting fat or HA (Hyaluronic acid) into the penis, or using inflatable penile prosthetics if the size is less than three inches.

Other methods with limited chances of improvement include:

  1. Jelqing exercises, which involve a hand-over-hand rolling motion to move blood to the head of the penis and stretch it like milking. This method is generally safe but can cause pain, irritation, or scar tissue formation if done too often or aggressively.

  2. Stretching method, which involves attaching a stretcher or extender device to the penis to exert gentle tension.

  3. The DND penis enlargement pump can be used once a morning after or before a bath. Vacuum pumps draw blood into the penis, making it swell, and they are used for treating erectile dysfunction (inability to achieve or maintain an erection for sexual intercourse). While the vacuum pump can temporarily make a penis look larger, using it too often or for too long can damage elastic tissue in the penis, leading to fewer firm erections.

I hope this helps.

Please revert to assist you further.

Thank you.
