Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
For the past week, I have been experiencing a “scratchy” feeling on just the left side of my throat, right below my Adam’s Apple region.
Now, it feels as though whatever it is has transformed into a feeling of paralysis from my voice box up to behind my left nasal passage. I am also experiencing shortness of breath.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Can you send me a picture of your throat (a clear one)? I want to see if your posterior pharyngeal wall or tonsils are infected. These symptoms are suggestive of vocal cord paralysis.

Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I am not diabetic. There is no issue with my nose; it just feels like it is paralyzed on the left side of the back of my throat from my throat to my nose. I do not have a post-nasal drip.
Some hoarseness in my voice while speaking, very mild though. I do consume alcohol, and I am also a smoker. I do have acid reflux issues and have been taking Omeprazole (40 mg) for the past three days.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I have seen the picture, you seem to have granular pharyngitis (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Otherwise, your throat looks normal; maybe that is why you have irritation in your throat. You can take antihistamines (like Cetirizine) for a week and decongestants (like Phenylephrine) for five days (both orally).
Take anti-inflammatory enzymes like Trypsin and Chymotrypsin twice daily. Do Chlorhexidine mouth gargles thrice daily, drink warm water. Avoid cold food items. Continue Omeprazole.
If you feel that your symptoms are not improving with the above treatment, do get back to us; we might have to start antibiotics (as of now, I do not feel there is any necessity for antibiotics). And yes, do not take alcohol or smoke till you recover completely.
I hope this helps.
Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
