Should a female with hyperthyroidism be concerned about symptoms like sinus bradycardia, chest discomfort, and left arm pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My mother has been diagnosed with sinus bradycardia accompanied by mild chest discomfort and weakness. An ECG has revealed a heart rate of 60 beats per minute, and she is experiencing pain in her left arm. Given her existing hyperthyroid condition, should we be concerned about these symptoms in her case?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

This patient's hyperthyroidism is well-controlled, which is a positive aspect. A heart rate of 60-90 is typically considered normal, and 58 falls within the nearly normal range. So, there is no immediate cause for concern regarding her heart rate. The issue here seems to be the poor progression of R waves and low voltage. While the progression appears normal, the low voltage is a valid concern. To further assess the cardiac situation, I would suggest you do an echocardiography examination. I would also suggest you motivate the patient to lose weight, as excess weight can contribute to low voltage complexes.

Overall, there is no need to panic at this point. Please provide the echocardiography report when it is available for a more accurate assessment of the situation.

Feel free to share the report with us for further guidance.

Thank you.
