Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from pigmentation for more than three years. My skin is just getting darker day by day. Please help.

Thanks.

Thank you for submitting your question to the forum. I acknowledge your concerns regarding melasma pigmentation. Melasma is a condition characterized by pigmentation resulting from various factors, commonly seen in females due to hormonal influences. A combination of Kojic acid and Azelaic acid is considered a safe treatment option for this condition. In my practice, I often recommend a combination of Kojic acid and Azelaic acid for long-term use without any adverse effects. These medications effectively aid in reducing pigmentation. If I were your dermatologist, I would prescribe a cream containing Kojic acid with arbutin and mulberry extract for one night, and Azelaic acid gel for the following night, to be applied on the affected areas. These creams are among the safest and most effective options. Apply a thin layer of either cream at night before bedtime. Additionally, I advise using a high-quality sunscreen three times a day - in the morning and every 3 hours thereafter. Sun exposure significantly contributes to the worsening of melasma pigmentation. Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits with yellow and red hues, as they act as natural sunscreens. I trust that this information will assist you in addressing pigmentation concerns. Please feel free to reach out with any further questions. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
