Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been suffering from rashes on my thigh for one month. Two weeks ago, I visited a dermatologist who prescribed a solution called Levomycetin and instructed me to apply it twice a day.
After using the solution on the rashes, they started to itch while I was bathing, so I applied more water to them. This resulted in a burning sensation, and the rashes continue to itch. When I press on them, pus comes out.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing the photo (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) and the details. It really helps. From the history and the image, it appears this is no longer a simple rash.
Your symptoms strongly suggest a secondary bacterial infection over already damaged skin. Most likely infected dermatitis or folliculitis, possible impetiginization, early localized cellulitis, or abscess formation.
The dark, thickened skin also indicates irritant damage and chronic scratching (lichenification). I suggest you please stop the following:
Stop using Levomycetin spirit.
Stop applying hot water to the area.
Stop scratching or pressing (pressing spreads infection).
Do not use home remedies such as Dettol, iodine, turmeric, toothpaste, etc.
The likely treatment for your condition includes oral antibiotics, as topical treatments alone may not be sufficient. In addition, topical antibiotics may be used, potentially combined with mild steroids after achieving infection control.
If an abscess forms, drainage may be necessary. Please answer the following questions so that I can get a clear idea about your case.
Did you have a ring-shaped, itchy rash or scaling (which could indicate fungal infection)?
Did you experience excessive sweating, go to the gym, or encounter friction?
Have you previously used a cream containing a steroid and an antifungal?
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I would be happy to guide you. Please keep your valuable feedback for better patient care.
Thank you so much.
