Can throat infections be a sign of an STD?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female who is 5 feet tall and does not take any medications. I have asthma, and my family has a history of high blood pressure. This appeared after kissing and having sex with someone. I had intercourse last week and noticed it today. My ear also itches on the side. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

According to your symptoms, this condition indicates an infection of the throat that is infected with tonsils. So that is tonsillitis and these affect the ear because infection goes to the ear from the throat by connection between ear and throat. Please answer the questions below, so that I can confirm whether these conditions are caused by viruses, bacteria, or other issues.

  1. Did you ever get a fever during this period?

  2. Since when have you been facing this problem?

  3. Any other symptoms, like coughing and breathlessness?

  4. Do you feel pain while swallowing even while swallowing saliva?

This condition could be caused by a variety of circumstances, including infection, but if you have a history of sex, a kiss from an infected individual could be the source of the infection. And while conventional intercourse does not create these issues.

What if you had oral sex? As a result of oral sex, many disease factors are introduced into the tonsils, and oral sex raises the risk of infection.

Did you have oral sex? And even if so, do not panic; some medicines are taken to resolve these problems. Also, according to your given asthma (A chronic disease in which the bronchial airways in the lungs become narrowed and swollen, making it difficult to breathe.) history, take proper medicine that does not increase asthma symptoms because some medicines are not given to asthma patients. I hope that you get your answer. Please let me know if you need some help.

Thank you.
