Can an accidental back bend lead to a central back injury and interfere with walking?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Today I bent on my back accidentally while trying to prevent myself from falling due to a slip. While doing that I felt like my back got broken in the middle, as a part of it got in the inside when that happened. That specific part hurts so much when I bend backward and walk as if that part is broken, but if I bend forward it does not hurt. I cannot walk properly because I feel like my back is going to break when I stand straight. Is that serious? I am nervous. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As a result of your weak core muscles supporting your spine, you are essentially experiencing facet joint discomfort. Simply take any painkillers twice daily for five days. After that, when the discomfort has subsided, begin general conditioning activities and make them a routine.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
