Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

I found swollen lymph nodes and a spleen in my abdomen, but no other symptoms were seen, and blood results were normal. I would like to know whether it is cancer. What else could it be if no infection is found?

Please help

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. Splenomegaly with swollen lymph nodes should always be investigated. Doctors will first try to rule out infectious etiology, and if no reason is detected, they will focus on ruling out malignancy. The following are some of the possible causes of your ailment. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), TB (tuberculosis), autoimmune disorders, hemolytic anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, and infectious mononucleosis are all examples of persistent infections. For HIV - ELISA(enzyme-linked immuno-serum assay) testing can be done. For hemolytic anemia serum LDH (lactate dehydrogenase), PS (peripheral smear) examination, and reticulocyte count were done. In leukemia, PS reports usually show malignant features. If PS is normal and leukemia is strongly suspected then bone marrow aspiration might be planned (but only if needed). The enlarged node biopsy was taken and sent for histopathology examination to rule out lymphoma and the nature of the enlarged lymph node.
