How do I treat numbness and red bumps on my tongue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My tongue has felt itchy and numb since yesterday. Today I woke up with bright red spots on the back of my tongue. There is no pain when swallowing.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The spots on the tongue usually occur for a wide variety of reasons. However, the main possibilities could be due to direct injury, stress, or malnutrition.

Any hot food touching the area could cause them. Sometimes, stress is also responsible for the appearance of such red spots on the tongue.

The lack of vitamins may also be responsible. It is not to worry much about. Generally, these are harmless, and unless present for a few weeks, there is nothing to be worried about it.

But still, better get it treated. Maintainance of good oral hygiene is the key. So, I suggest you visit a dentist and get it treated.

I hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
