Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

After my streptococcus throat infection, my skin Is peeling. No rash, no pain. What is happening? I did have a fever for four days. Currently, I am on day five of antibiotics, Amoxicillin.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I hope you are feeling better on the prescribed antibiotic. Your prescription of symptoms is classic dot Scarlet fever which occurs mostly in young children but can also spread and infect older people when in close contact with an infected patient, most commonly adults who deal with children. The course of treatment is not usually prolonged. It is 10 days. Scarlet fever or post-streptococcal skin rash appears 12 to 28 hours after symptoms (sore throat). It starts with a reddish sunburn-like rash, then turns to peel, especially around the fingertips.

The other differential diagnosis will be explained below.

The Probable causes

1. Scarlet fever.

2. Streptococcal skin infection.

Investigations to be done

If the throat swab already confirmed Streptococcus throat infection then no more investigations need to be done for the time being.

Treatment plan included

1. Continue on Amoxicillin for 10 days.

2. Do not scratch or peel your skin intentionally.

3. If you developed a fever or felt lethargic or your skin appeared reddish or purplish or you developed bullae or blisters please seek medical advice immediately.

4. Contact precautions with household (wash hands and sanitize it before contact) until you recover.

5. Hydration and rest.

Regarding follow up

Please feel free to follow up with me after completing the course of treatment or if you needed any help during the course.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have children to take care of. Should I be concerned about my skin, and how long will this go on?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I address your concern.

You can contact them since you are already on day five of antibiotics. The precautions should be strictly within the appearance of the symptoms and until after 24 hours of antibiotics. Still, many experts recommend hand washing and sanitization during treatment until the full course is completed and you recover.

Regarding the duration of the skin peeling, it can be from one to three weeks.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
