Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a temporary crown on my tooth and I have a few questions to ask. One of the questions is when can I start back smoking Marijuana again. I smoke Marijuana for back pain due to having scoliosis.
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Medical marijuana, though recommended by some practitioners for scoliosis, may not be the most effective remedy. Alternatives like aerobics and physiotherapy are safer options, as smoking adversely impacts overall and oral health. Regular use of substances like marijuana, LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), or cocaine, even where legal, can lead to xerostomia (dry mouth), salivary gland diseases, oral ulcers, and an increased risk of precancerous lesions.
From a surgical perspective, I would advise against smoking marijuana, particularly with a temporary crown, as it can contribute to crown loosening, fractures, and gum issues like bleeding. While a temporary crown might withstand occasional use, replacing it with a permanent one soon is crucial. If you are looking to quit or need alternative remedies, I am happy to help as a maxillofacial surgeon.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
