Can replacement therapy improve low testosterone levels?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My son is 24 years old and has an extremely low testosterone level, experiencing a lack of energy. The doctor referred him to an endocrinologist, who mentioned everything from a pituitary tumor to diabetes. He also had surgery for Wolff-Parkinson-White ten years ago. I realize most tumors are benign. My question is this: Can this be fixed, and is there a good possibility he can increase his testosterone level to live a normal life?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
It appears that your son has a pituitary tumor, which I am sure was observed on the pituitary MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan. It depends on the type of pituitary tumor; if it is a microprolactinoma, then it can be treated once the prolactin is corrected, and the other hormones return to normal, or in some cases, replacement therapy may be needed. It would have been better if you had attached your son's reports about the pituitary and the other hormone analysis tests I am sure you had done because it is not appropriate to suggest anything without seeing the test results.
Regarding testosterone deficiency, if necessary, meaning if it is too low and not corrected after correcting the pituitary tumor, then he can be given testosterone replacement therapy, and he can hopefully lead a normal life with that.
Take care, and do not hesitate to seek medical advice for a physical check-up.
Thank you.
