Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My girlfriend underwent TOF surgery at 19 years of age. I want to know the long-term prognosis associated with it. Some says it is complicated and not same as VSD or ASD types. Will it have any long-term health problem associated with it even after surgery? As an expert can you shed light into the matter from your experience? I have attached her pre and post surgery documents.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have thoroughly gone through your case, reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) and can well understand your genuine health concerns.

The Probable causes

It is hopefully very positive to say that she has nothing wrong and there is nothing left behind of the heart defects. She was well operated and has recovered very nicely and as expected. The prognosis is good and she is fine. She is good to go for marriage and even continue to have her family extended.

Regarding follow up

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you very much. Could you please suggest what all diagnostics we need for a detailed review of her present condition? I mean cardiac MRI, scan, etc., to show her present condition. Please guide me.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I am happy to assist you here with the required tests.

Investigations to be done

Do CBC (complete blood count) with ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and differentials, LFTs (liver function tests), RFTs (renal function tests), and ECG (electrocardiogram). Upload the laboratory reports when ready. I will review and get back to you in time.

Regarding follow up

Revert back with the laboratory reports to a cardiologist online.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Please find the detailed echo report and other reports. Let me know your advice please.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have thoroughly gone through your attached reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity).

The Probable causes

Her heart is functioning perfectly normal as a pump. The chambers of the heart pumping the blood towards major organs and whole body. She has a very mild heart valve issue that is natural through the course of the disease. Also, there is slight enlargement of the heart chambers on the right side. These are the after-effects of the TOF (tetralogy of Fallot) anomalies. But she has a perfectly normal septum (middle wall of heart that separates the major chambers of heart). She needs a proper and timely follow up to see if there is any issue that emerges with time. Her echo shows she has high blood pressure in blood vessels of lungs. It is mild, but there is a need for proper care and follow up.
