Is Tezspire effective in managing severe asthma symptoms?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Last year, I was diagnosed with severe eosinophilic asthma, and I continue to face significant challenges. My current medications are only minimally alleviating my symptoms. Despite undergoing allergy shots and taking Singulair, Advair, and Spiriva, I have not experienced any substantial improvement. I am unable to engage in any physical activity and have suffered from pneumonia twice this year. My allergist mentioned a new medication called Tezspire, but appeared uncertain about it. Blood tests indicate elevated eosinophil levels, even with my ongoing treatment. At 38 years old, I am concerned about the possibility of permanent lung damage. I work in an office but find myself missing work weekly due to breathing difficulties. I would like to understand how Tezspire (Tezepelumab) differs from Nucala, which I previously tried. Honestly, could this medication finally enable me to breathe normally? How long would it take to determine if it is effective?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Tezspire (Tezepelumab) differs significantly from Nucala. While Nucala (Mepolizumab, a type of monoclonal antibody) specifically targets IL-5 cells to inhibit Eosinophils, Tezspire works by blocking Thymic stromal lymphopoietin, thereby preventing various inflammatory and allergic responses. Indeed, it can help restore normal breathing. Research indicates a 50-70 percent decrease in attacks, leading to fewer hospital and emergency room visits, as well as a reduced reliance on steroids.
It may take 3 to 6 months for individuals to experience the full benefits.
I hope this information helps you.
