Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 19 years old, and my foreskin does not pull back all the way. When the penis is not erect, there is no problem, but when it is erect, the foreskin only retracts halfway. Sometimes I keep it pulled back for days to see if it will stretch, but it does not seem to help. What should I do? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I understand your concern, and you have explained your situation clearly. If your foreskin retracts fully when the penis is not erect but only goes halfway during erection, this is most consistent with partial phimosis, which is quite common at your age. You must not keep the foreskin pulled back for hours or days, because a tight foreskin left behind the glans can reduce blood flow and may lead to a condition called paraphimosis, which can become a medical emergency.
The good news is that partial phimosis does not automatically require surgery. In many cases, it can be managed with proper hygiene, gentle stretching exercises done correctly and never forcefully, and sometimes a topical steroid cream, which helps the skin become more elastic over a few weeks. Since you are not experiencing pain, infections, or urinary problems, this is not urgent, but it should be addressed properly to avoid future issues such as painful erections or sexual difficulty.
Do you feel tightness or pain when the penis becomes erect, or is it only a limitation in movement?
This information will help determine whether non-surgical treatment options can be tried before considering more serious interventions.
Kindly revert if there are any queries.
Thank you.
