How to treat tinnitus?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from tinnitus. A very annoying problem for more than one year. Early when I recognized, I went to a hospital and they gave me Ginkgo biloba to eat for two months but nothing happened. Then I went to an ENT specialist and had medicines but again no result. I have just lost all hope. Sometimes I think I must end my life to get rid of it.

Please help me.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Tinnitus is a very annoying problem. As troublesome as it is, I am not surprised when you say you feel like taking away your life. But hey, why do you wanna do something so drastic because you have not been able to keep the problem at bay? Tinnitus has various solutions, but one must be patient enough to wait for results. And I would like to know more details about your problem.

  1. When did it start?
  2. Did you have any exposure to loud sounds like a bomb blast or something like that?
  3. Did you have any ototoxic medicine? Any strong medicine you had to take?
  4. Is there any hearing loss as well?
  5. Does tinnitus always present?
  6. Does it ever increase or decrease or change with time or any activity?
  7. Is there any discharge from the ear or giddiness?
  8. Is the sound ringing or whooshing or buzzing or drilling?

Coming to treatment options, there is a medicine called capsule Tinnicar (Caroverine) which has shown good results in tinnitus patients. There are intratympanic injections that reduce the intensity of the ringing sound. Next, you have tinnitus matching and masking where we provide a sound that masks your tinnitus and makes you adapt to the condition.

Do revert back with all details. If you have done any audiogram or any ear-related investigations please upload the same in the next query. Please upload any reports pertaining to blood also. If you suffer from diabetes or hypertension please provide us details regarding the same.

I am sure you will feel better with the right advice. Do not worry.

Thank you.
