What is the treatment for a mildly itchy tongue with a light white coating?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 33 years old, and not sure if my symptoms are that of a sexually transmitted disease or sexually transmitted infection. My tongue is mildly itchy with a light white coating on it. Two days ago, there was some pain, but the swelling has gone down. Also, my period came a week early, and 20 days later, I started spotting. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. I have reviewed your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The tongue looks fine, except it is eroded or devoid of papillae on the sides. It does not look like any sexually transmitted disease or anything serious. It is simple glossitis. I suggest you take a vitamin B complex supplement. I hope this information will help. Thank you.
