Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from a cold and a sore throat. I also have a painful gland. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

A sore throat may result from various reasons such as tonsillitis, strep throat, common cold, flu, influenza, post-nasal drip, virus, etc. You are most probably suffering from tonsillitis as you have mentioned about the painful gland.

For your tonsillitis, I suggest you take antihistamines like Fexofenadine, Cetrizine, or Loratadine along with gargling with salt mixed with lukewarm water three to four times daily. Sometimes, antibiotics may be needed to subside tonsillitis.

MPV indicates mean platelet volume that is above 12 is considered slightly high. Due to your tonsillitis, such type of result may come but one blood test does not confirm anything. So, you can repeat your blood test.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
