Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am getting lumbar surgery for a disc. My neck and right shoulder blade are paining severely for the last two weeks. It travels all the way into my arm and sometimes feels as though I have touched a bolt of electricity. I also have a weird knot that moves around on my shoulder blade, I have had it for two years and now it is causing severe pain. Please help me figure out what is going on with my neck, shoulder, and arm. It is a living hell for me.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

This condition is called trapezitis. It is an inflammation of the trapezius muscle which causes intense pain. So, I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.

1. Avoid lifting heavy weights.

2. Avoid arching your back. Instead, bend your knees to pick up any object from the floor.

3. Avoid sitting for long hours.

4. Avoid two-wheeler rides.

5. Improve your posture while sitting and sit erect.

6. Always sit on a chair with back support.

7. Take bed rest if there is severe pain.

8. Do not get up suddenly from a sleeping position.

9. Do hot fomentations locally over the affected area twice daily.

10. Apply a good pain relief gel twice daily.

11. Take a tablet of Pregabalin (anticonvulsant) once daily for 15 days.

12. Take a tablet of Etoricoxib (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) twice daily for ten days.

13. Take a table of Rabeprazole (antacid) twice daily before food for ten days.

14. Take a tablet of Shelcal (Calcium and Vitamin D3) once daily for a month.

15. Do core strengthening exercises.

16. Do not take these medicines if are allergic to any of these drugs or you are suffering from bronchial asthma.

17. Do physiotherapy.

18. Practice neck, and shoulder rotations.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
