Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 32-year-old friend was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 25 years. She has been using an insulin pump but recently started experiencing frequent high blood sugars, especially in the morning. Her hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) is 8.2 percent, and her last blood work showed slightly elevated liver enzymes. She has also been dealing with fatigue and muscle cramps. Could this be related to her diabetes or another underlying issue? She is considering transitioning to a newer pump with an advanced algorithm. Lastly, her doctor mentioned a test for diabetic gastroparesis.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Fatigue and muscle cramps could be caused by hypoglycemia or, in the case of diabetes, the body uses lactic acid for energy, and it breaks the muscle fiber, which is why fatigue and muscle cramps could occur. He should maintain his weight within a normal body mass index (BMI). He should take a healthy diabetic diet and also do regular exercise. In diabetic gastroparesis, there is an abnormal gastric function, such as delayed gastric emptying.
You should consult with an endocrinologist or diabetologist.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
