Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am an 18-year-old with type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed when I was 4. I recently heard about the death of a diabetic teen, who died suddenly from diabetes complications. Why did she die? Am I at risk? I am so anxious that I can not sleep.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
First of all, try to stay calm.
Many people with type 1 diabetes have lived long, healthy lives. Just because one person passed away due to complications does not mean the same will happen to everyone with the condition. In their case, there may have been other contributing factors that led to the death. No two people are the same, and we do not have all the details about her medical situation.
As for you, the best thing you can do is take care of yourself. Keep your blood sugar levels well-managed, follow a healthy lifestyle, and see your doctor regularly. I assure you that with proper care, you can live a full and healthy life. Try to avoid reading too many distressing articles, as they can negatively impact your mind. Meditation can also help shift your focus away from anxious thoughts.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
