Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female. My face is darker than my body. My skintone is also uneven, and I have dark patches around the corners of my mouth, the corners of my lips, and under my nose.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I understand how upsetting it can feel when your face looks darker than the rest of your body.

Uneven skin tone with dark patches around the mouth, corners of the lips, and under the nose, especially at a young age is very common and manageable condition, often related to sun exposure, hormonal changes, friction, or mild post-inflammatory pigmentation, and with the right care, I am giving you a step-by-step effective treatment and daily habits to improve your perioral hyperpigmentation gradually.

As for face wash, use a simple, gentle cleanser twice daily (morning and night). Avoid scrubs or harsh face washes.

Sunscreen is the key step. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 (sun protection factor 30) or higher every morning, even if you stay indoors. Use the two-finger rule for sunscreen amount for the face and neck. Apply 15 to 20 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every three to four hours if outdoors. Sunscreen is essential; without it, pigmentation will not improve.

At bedtime, apply Kojivit Plus cream in a pea-sized amount only, gently spreading a thin layer on the pigmented areas around the mouth and under the nose. Then apply a light moisturizer over the entire face, including unaffected areas. Use this every night for at least six to eight weeks. This cream contains ingredients like Kojic acid and Glycolic acid that help reduce pigmentation and even out skin tone; mild tingling in the first few days can be normal.

Avoid rubbing or frequently touching the pigmented areas. Do not use fairness creams, steroid creams, lemon, toothpaste, or home remedies on the face, and avoid frequent waxing or threading over pigmented skin. Keep your skin moisturized, drink adequate water, and maintain a regular sleep routine. Be patient, as pigmentation fades slowly and improves with consistency rather than quick fixes.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
