Patient's Query
Hello, Doctor,
I had protected intimacy a few days back. But the condom got stuck inside the vagina and was removed immediately. I saw semen come outside, and I don’t think much went inside. My period is due around the middle of this month. Please tell me,
What are the chances of pregnancy?
What should I do now?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Since the condom got stuck but was removed immediately, and most of the semen came outside, the chance of pregnancy is low, though not completely zero, because a small amount of sperm can sometimes leak during withdrawal or while the condom was stuck.
Your period is expected around the middle of this month, so timing also matters:
If this happened near ovulation (usually around the middle of the menstrual cycle), the risk is slightly higher
If it happened away from ovulation, especially close to your expected period, the risk is much lower
What you should do now:
If intercourse happened within the last 72 hours, you can consider emergency contraception for extra safety.
If within 5 days, some emergency pills may still work; they should only be taken after consulting the doctor.
Monitor for your period.
You can go for a pregnancy test if the period is considered late by more than 7 days, or by 14 days after the incident, for an accurate result.
Also, you should be cautious about symptoms like,
Unusual discharge.
Bad smell.
Pain during periods.
Fever.
Those could suggest irritation or infection, though condom retention alone usually does not cause harm if removed completely.
Most likely, this situation ends without pregnancy, especially since the condom was removed quickly and semen appeared outside.
I hope this information helps you.

Thank you.
