Do colostrum supplements help relieve my chronic urticaria?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 27 years old, and I have been suffering from chronic urticaria almost daily for over a year. Antihistamines barely help now. Can colostrum supplements at 27 reduce chronic urticaria when nothing else has helped? Allergy tests were negative, and IgE is only mildly high.
I have tried diet changes, steroids, and Montelukast. Someone suggested colostrum for gut immunity.
Is there science behind this, or is it just hype?
Can it worsen immune reactions?
I am desperate for relief because itching disrupts sleep and work. Living like this daily is mentally draining.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
I am really sorry you have been dealing with this for so long, because chronic spontaneous urticaria can be exhausting, especially when the itching disrupts sleep, work, and daily life, and standard treatments stop being effective.
Colostrum supplements are marketed as immune-supporting and gut health products, but there is no strong clinical evidence that they improve chronic urticaria. In some people, any immune-active supplement can be unpredictable, so it is not considered a reliable or guideline-based treatment for this condition.
The condition you are describing, with antihistamines losing effectiveness and other treatments like steroids and Montelukast not giving lasting control, is something doctors do see in harder-to-treat cases. At that point, management usually moves toward specialist-level therapies that target the underlying immune signaling more directly rather than general supplements.
One commonly used option in these situations is Omalizumab, which has good evidence for many people whose hives do not respond to standard antihistamines. It is also important to reassess triggers even when allergy testing is negative, because most chronic spontaneous urticaria is not driven by classic allergies or IgE (immunoglobulin E) in a strong way.
I understand why you are looking for anything that might help, but colostrum is more hype than a proven treatment here. Focusing on evidence-based escalation with a specialist is much more likely to bring real relief than immune supplements.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
