Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 7-month-old son received his vaccines four days ago. One of the vaccines administered to him was not supposed to be given. A few minutes after receiving the vaccines (which were administered on his thigh), a small red, spotty rash appeared on his arm. Since then, it has spread significantly and is worsening. We immediately informed the doctor about it when it occurred, and she advised us to 'just watch it,' without suggesting any further action. Also, he was mistakenly given the Rotavirus vaccine, which he was not supposed to receive. The response from the medical staff was simply, 'we are sorry we made an error.'
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
The rash appears to be an allergic reaction, which can occur with any vaccine due to certain ingredients like egg protein. Given your child's history and the photo provided (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), this seems likely. If the rash is spreading rapidly, I suggest administering an antihistamine such as Cetzine drops (Cetirizine hydrochloride), adjusting the dosage according to the child's weight, or providing an oral or intravenous steroid as soon as possible. Externally, you can apply a soothing cream like moisturizing baby lotion to the rash.
Regarding the error in administering the rotavirus vaccine to a 7-month-old child, kindly note that according to the manufacturer guidelines, the rotavirus vaccine can be given up to eight months of age. Therefore, while an error occurred, it may not be directly related to the rash.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
