Are vaginal discomfort and a thick discharge suggestive of vaginal thrush?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a twenty-four-year-old female who is around five feet seven inches tall and weighs about 160 lbs. I have been experiencing discomfort around my vaginal opening for the past few weeks. I took a thrush medication called Canesten duo because I had a thrush-like discharge, but it did not go away immediately, and the discomfort continued. I had an STI (sexually transmitted infection) test to rule out chlamydia and gonorrhea, which came back negative, but the itching has returned. I have no odd discharge; it is a little heavier, but I am due for a period soon.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your symptoms are indicative of vaginitis, which is caused mostly by a fungal infection. Keep the region dry and clean, drink plenty of warm water, eat a soft diet, and use antifungal medication and cream. Here are some suggestions that will help you overcome this problem.

Wear cotton underwear, eat more curd, and consume less sugar.

Do not regularly wash your vagina with water.

Check your blood sugar levels.

Reach out to us if you require any other information.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
