What causes a rotten smell and itching in the vagina?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For the last ten days, I have been feeling a rotten-like smell in my vagina with little itching. Why?

Please help.

Answered by Dr. Ali Osman

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Well, I am concerned about your worries. I would like to ask you more about the complaint.

  1. Is there any complaint of vaginal discharge? If yes, tell me the details of the discharge.

  2. What was the color of the discharge?

  3. What was the consistency of the discharge?

  4. Was there any smell or itching associated with it?

  5. Was there any relation with the menstruation?

As you have a past history of diabetes, this means your immunity is weak due to diabetes. So they usually get recurrent vaginal discharge caused by a fungal infection, which is white in color, flaky, thick inconsistency associated with smell and itching.

As the problem is recurrent, I will advise you to take this treatment:

  1. Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg oral three doses in a gap of 72 hours means you will take only three tablets. Zero dose (first dose), then second dose after 72 hours, and the last dose, after 72 hours.

  2. Tablet Clotrimazole 100 mg vaginal tablet once at night per vaginal for eight days.

I hope that after taking this treatment, your symptoms will disappear. Do not worry. You will feel better because it is a fungal infection associated with low immunity due to diabetes.

I hope this information helps you.

Regards.
