Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have vaginal itching, which interferes with daily tasks. It is so uncomfortable, and a constant issue. The area is also slightly swollen. I have taken Paracetamol when it hurts very badly. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing discomfort. Itching and swelling in the vaginal area can be caused by various factors, like infections, allergies, or irritation. It is important to consult with a healthcare professional to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In the meantime, you may try some general tips for relief:

1. Keep the area clean and dry: Gently wash the area with mild, unscented soap and water. Avoid using harsh soaps, douches, or feminine hygiene products that may further irritate the area. Pat the area dry after washing.

2. Avoid potential irritants: Perfumed soaps, detergents, fabric softeners, and other irritants can aggravate the symptoms. Try using hypoallergenic, fragrance-free products and wearing breathable cotton underwear.

3. Avoid scratching: Although it may be tempting, scratching can further irritate the area and potentially lead to infection. If needed, apply a cold compress or use over-the-counter anti-itch creams or ointments specifically formulated for the genital area.

4. Avoid sexual activity: It is advisable to abstain from sexual activity until you can consult with a healthcare professional.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
