Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a first-degree varicocele, and I have been practicing weightlifting for a year.
Is there an alternative to weightlifting, and what is your advice?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have reviewed your case and understand your concerns.
Varicocele is an abnormal dilation and enlargement of the scrotal venous plexus that drains the testis. It is clinically divided into three grades: subclinical, grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3.
For grade 1 varicocele, which is only palpable during the Valsalva maneuver but not otherwise, it is often asymptomatic and may not require active treatment.
Management depends on associated symptoms, concerns about infertility, and testicular dysfunction.
Treatment options can be categorized into non-surgical and surgical approaches:
If there is persistent pain, infertility, or testicular atrophy, surgical intervention may be necessary. Surgical options include microscopic varicocelectomy, laparoscopic varicocelectomy, and embolization of the testicular veins.
Follow-up should include semen analysis and monitoring of associated symptoms. It is advisable to consult your urologist for personalized guidance and management.
I hope I have addressed your concerns. If you have further questions, feel free to reach out.
Thank you.
