Venereal Warts

Warts occurring in and around the genitals and anus are known as venereal or genital warts. These are the commonest among sexually transmitted infections caused by the human papillomavirus. They are small painless, cauliflower-like, skin-colored growth. They spread through unprotected sex, sharing sex toys, and multiple partners. Symptoms include burning sensation or pain during urination or sex, abnormal vaginal or penile discharge. Venereal warts increase the susceptibility of other sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, and hence they must be ruled out. Vaccination can help prevent warts. Some HPV strains are capable of causing cancer of the anus and vulva.
