What is my life expectancy if I have ASD or VSD?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 24-year-old male. I do not have a history of the disease. I am currently on Lexapro 10 mg. I have done my ECG and lipid profile tests. Does this ECG suggest an ASD or VSD? What is my life expectancy if I have one and I get it repaired? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The electrocardiogram (ECG) is not a specific test for both defects. For this reason, I recommend performing a cardiac ultrasound to examine your health function and structure.
I hope this helps.

Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
If I have a defect at age 24, will I be able to live a long life if I have it repaired? I am anxious about this and do not want to die.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Septal defects, when properly and timely corrected, do not affect longevity. So, there is nothing to worry about. At 24 years of age, it seems to be an atrial septal defect; anyway, I would prefer to directly review your cardiac ultrasound report for a more precise professional opinion.
I hope this helps.
