How to prevent or reduce the severity of vertigo episodes?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello Doctor,

I am a 30-year-old woman, and I have been experiencing sudden, intense episodes of vertigo that make it impossible to stand or walk properly. These episodes are debilitating, affecting both my work and personal life, and I feel completely helpless.

I have been reading about ménière's disease, and some of the symptoms seem similar to what I am experiencing. I am wondering:

  1. How can I know for sure if this is what I have?

  2. What are the available treatment options for managing the vertigo and other symptoms associated with Ménière's disease?

  3. Is there anything I can do to prevent or reduce the severity of these episodes?

This condition is taking a serious toll on my daily life, and I would really appreciate your guidance on how to manage it.

Kindly help!

Hello,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your vertigo episodes may be due to cervical spine issues, lack of exercise, improper sleep, the use of a high pillow, incorrect sleeping posture, or poor sitting posture. Recurrent upper respiratory tract allergies can also contribute to these symptoms.

To diagnose and treat this properly, I recommend the following tests:

  1. Magnetic resonance imaging (to assess the cervical spine).

  2. Vertigo profile.

  3. Complete blood count (CBC).

  4. Random blood sugar levels.

  5. Thyroid function test.

  6. Urine routine test.

Meanwhile, please follow these steps:

  1. Maintain correct posture while sitting and sleeping.

  2. Perform neck, back, and shoulder exercises daily.

  3. Do eye exercises regularly.

Medications you can take:

  1. Cinnarizine – one tablet twice a day.

  2. Cap Neurokind Gold – one capsule per day.

(All for five days)

Please send me a follow-up with your reports after five days, and we will work towards resolving this completely.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
