Is it okay to use Viagra repeatedly?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having trouble with erections, but I can get it with Viagra (Sildenafil citrate) 25 milligram. I have used Viagra before, but is it okay to use it again?

Kindly guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

According to your complaints, you may be suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED).

Reasons for ED include following:

  1. Stress due to work or family-related issues, night duties – plan for regular exercise and yoga.

  2. Depression.

  3. Varicocele – ultrasound of the scrotum can help diagnose.

  4. Fear of failure – having one episode of ED can make you feel you will end up with ED permanently.

  5. Low self-esteem.

  6. Chronic masturbation.

  7. Homosexuality – not attracted to the same sex.

  8. Religious constraints.

  9. Smoking and alcohol.

  10. Long-term illness – cardiac disease, thyroid disease, kidney disease, or any other disease requiring long-term medication.

  11. Simple vitamin deficiency.

  12. Negative attitude towards your partner.

  13. Hormonal issues – thyroid issues, low testosterone, or increased prolactin.

  14. Long-term drug use.

  15. Diabetes and hypertension.

I suggest you undergo following tests:

  1. Doppler ultrasound of the penis.

  2. Ultrasonography pelvis and scrotum.

  3. Blood pressure.

  4. Random blood sugar (RBS).

  5. Free T3/T4 (Triiodothyronine and Thyroxine).

  6. Testosterone.

  7. TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).

Share more details regarding the above reasons so we can work on diagnosis and treatment.

I also suggest you perform regular exercise and a proper diet.

List of exercises:

  1. Basic exercises like Kegels, squats, yoga, running, or fast walking for 5 minutes.

  2. Missionary sex position: Planks, push-ups, mountain climbers, glute bridges.

  3. Standing sex position: Bicep curls, pull-ups, jump squats.

  4. Doggy style: Jump squats, walking lunges.

  5. Cowgirl or girl-on-top position: Glute bridges, leg raises.

Food recommendations: Strawberry, apple, avocado, sweet potato, sesame seeds, almonds, garlic, and a little chocolate.

For a temporary solution, you can use Tadalafil (phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors) 5 mg twice a day.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
