Can high cholesterol, low WBC, and high TSH cause weakness?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

It has been one month since I started feeling weak. My recent blood tests show a low WBC count of 3,100 cells per microliter, platelet count of 15,000 cells per microliter with a few giant platelets, borderline blood sugar levels, total cholesterol 240 mg/dL, LDL 145 mg/dL, and TSH of 7.0 µIU/mL with normal T3 and T4. Tumor markers show AFP 6.1 ng/mL and CEA within the normal range. What does this signify?

Please guide.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Adults should keep their total cholesterol levels below 200 mg/dL (yours is 240 mg/dL, which is high). HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol, the good cholesterol, should be at least 50 mg/dL in adult females. LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol at 145 mg/dL falls into the borderline-high range. These results indicate high blood cholesterol and a disturbed lipid profile that should be corrected.

Your WBC (white blood cell) count is 3,100/µL, indicating leukopenia, which may reduce the body’s ability to fight infections. Platelet count is 15,000/µL, indicating severe thrombocytopenia. TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) is 7.0 µIU/mL with normal T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine) levels, suggesting subclinical hypothyroidism. AFP (alpha-fetoprotein) is 6.1 ng/mL (within normal range), and CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) is also within normal limits.

As a conclusion of your blood test, you have to control your cholesterol and lipids, correct leukopenia, and the subclinical hypothyroidism.

I hope this answers your query. Feel free to reach out anytime.

Thank you.
