Why do I have foul-smelling discharge and a missed period?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a female, my height is 5 feet and 2.5 inches. I have not had my period for one and a half months. Sometimes, I notice yellow or white discharge, and there is a very foul smell from my vagina. I also feel very tired, and my lips have become dark and pale. Additionally, I am experiencing a lot of hair fall. What could be the reason for this? Can you suggest some solutions?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

First, a delayed period could be due to hormonal imbalance, vitamin deficiency, stress, or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). So, we need an investigation and a change of lifestyle, too.

I would suggest the following:

  • Follow a daily healthy diet schedule.

  • Exercise or do brisk walking for at least 45 minutes every day.

  • Avoid outside junk food.

  • Avoid cheese, oily foods, and spicy foods.

  • Avoid bakery items.

  • Drink at least three to four liters of water daily.

  • Complete the investigations as advised.

  • Share the reports for further medication guidance.

Second, foul-smelling discharge could be bacterial vaginosis. Wash daily once with water only, clean the vagina, and keep it dry. Wear cotton undergarments. After checking the reports, I will write medicine for this too.

Third, tiredness, hair fall, and dark, pale lips all point towards iron and vitamin deficiency in the body. Take good meals, leafy vegetables, and fruits, and share your reports for further medication.

The following investigations need to be done:

  • Complete blood count (CBC).

  • Urine pregnancy test.

  • Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

  • Prolactin.

  • Serum vitamin D level.

  • Serum vitamin B12 levels.

  • Urine microscopy.

  • Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c).

  • Fasting blood sugar.

  • Iron studies.

  • Ultrasound pelvis.

Follow up with the reports.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
