Does a white circle on the penis occur due to an STD?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

About three months ago, I got this white circle on my penis head. It has grown a bit, but it does not look very significant. For about two weeks, I have been applying anti-fungal cream to try to treat it with no results. I do not believe I have an STD, but I submitted my blood to get tested for major diseases anyway. The only symptom is the circle, nothing hurts or feels funny. I am not sure what it is, but I would like some opinions.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern. I opened the file and saw white circles (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity). They are not very clean, but as you stated without any problems or symptoms. In the first instance, I also thought about it as a fungal infection, as in females, white discharge, patches, or lines are also considered as fungal infection. So you are very lucky by applying fungal cream locally it starts healing. But if it is STD take a full course of treatment. One more thing is that it is a recurring disease. So if needed take again the course of treatment. Maintain hygiene of genital organs very carefully so chances of reoccurrence decrease. You have already gone for tests for major disease. Chlamydia and gonorrhea are very common STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). Laboratory tests also cover them usually. You treated yourself that way. I hope I have cleared all your doubts. Feel free to ask if you need further help.

Thank you.
