Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a small cluster of white spots that has appeared around my mouth. It is not a lot, just a few. What should I do?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concerns.
Tiny, clustered white spots around your mouth can indicate several conditions. The most common possibilities are:
Fordyce spots: These are harmless, visible oil glands. They appear as small, pale white or yellowish bumps that are not painful and not infectious. Fordyce spots are very common.
Milia: These are tiny white keratin cysts that are firm and small but not painful.
Mild irritation or clogged pores: This can occur, especially if you have recently used new lip balm, toothpaste, or skincare products.
Herpes: This condition, caused by the herpes simplex virus, typically begins with tingling or burning sensations, followed by the formation of painful fluid-filled blisters that break and crust over. It is usually uncomfortable. In your case, it is very rare to be the reason.
Let me ask you some important questions.
Are the spots painful?
Do they burn or tingle?
Are they fluid-filled, or are they just solid white bumps?
Have you recently had a fever or felt unwell?
If the spots are not painful, do not ooze, and are simply tiny white bumps, they are most likely benign and not dangerous.
Please do not squeeze them. You should keep the area clean and avoid using heavy lip products for now. If you notice any pain or crusting, please let me know, as this could change the diagnosis.
I hope this information helps with your situation. Please share your valuable feedback to improve patient care, and let me know if you have any further questions.
Thank you.
