Medical Conditions - Meniscus

A meniscus is C-shaped or crescent-shaped cartilage present in the knee, wrist, temporomandibular, sternoclavicular, and acromioclavicular joints. But in general, the term meniscus is used for the cartilage present in the knee joint. The primary function of the meniscus is to disperse the weight of the body on the knees and to reduce friction in the knee joint while walking and other movements. The meniscus is vulnerable and often gets torn during sports injuries.
