Abstract

Women tend to use skincare products that they find safe for their skin. Read this article to know about such natural cosmetic skincare products.

Introduction

When we think about maintaining our beauty, the first one that comes to mind is cosmetic products. And most women prefer environmentally friendly natural skincare products besides conventional cosmetics as they find them safe for their skin and overall health. However, some people prefer traditional products without knowing their ingredients and side effects.

How to Identify Natural Cosmetic Products?

All skincare products labeled as ‘natural’ are not natural. Skin care products can be identified as natural by checking the ingredients list on the pack. However, natural ingredients such as aloe vera extract are not added to the product. Still, they are processed in the labs for their ability to blend with the other ingredients and increase the efficiency of the product. There is no standard definition for a natural skincare product regulated by the Food and Drug Administration yet.

What Are the Common Natural Cosmetic Ingredients?

  • Hyaluronic Acid: It is the best ingredient that adds moisture to the skin and prevents water from escaping through the skin. It is a substance that is naturally available in our bodies. Individuals with dry skin should use hyaluronic acid serums to prevent skin dehydration.

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acid: Glycolic acid from sugarcane and lactic acid from milk are alpha hydroxy acids. They exfoliate the skin by sloughing away the dead cells and act as humectants by absorbing moisture from the environment to the skin. They help treat acne, fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation by increasing collagen production.

  • Ceramides: Ceramides are lipid chains present in between the skin cells. They are reduced as age progresses. So it is essential to add a sufficient amount of ceramides to your daily routine as they effectively keep the skin hydrated. Ceramides are available in synthetic and natural phytoceramide forms.

  • Retinol: Retinol is a vitamin A derivative added to cosmetic skincare products utilized by all skin types. It promotes collagen production and acts as an antioxidant. It also helps in the exfoliation of the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne. In addition, it can further reverse the skin changes caused by sun exposure.

  • Argan Oil: It is an oil obtained from the fruit of the argan tree, lighter than other natural oils. It contains vitamin E, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and ferulic acid, showcasing multiple benefits to the skin. It reduces the skin changes caused due to sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. In addition, it moisturizes the skin and promotes skin healing.

  • Vitamin C: Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, can absorb quickly and is used in most skincare products. It is an antioxidant and anti-aging ingredient that promotes collagen production in the skin. In addition, it repairs the skin damage caused by ultraviolet radiation from the sun and reduces hyperpigmentation, thereby establishing an even skin tone.

  • Vitamin E: It is an oil-soluble vitamin and antioxidant that best suits individuals with sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skin. They also act as an anti-inflammatory agent and heal and hydrate the skin. Besides the benefits of vitamin E, it is more effective in combination with vitamin C.

  • Vitamin B3: Vitamin B3 or niacinamide is one trending ingredient added in skin care products that every woman who is concerned about their skin has. It fights against acne with its anti-inflammatory properties. It strengthens the barrier over the skin and improves the elasticity of the skin. In addition, it reduces pigmentation and age spots after four weeks of application.

  • Algae Extracts: Algae contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and acne and heals the skin. In addition, certain algae may contain beta-carotene, which is effective against black and whiteheads.

  • Aloe Vera Extract: Aloe vera contains vitamins A and C with anti-inflammatory properties. They are preferred for reducing acne, treating burns, and hydrating the skin.

What Are the Reasons to Switch to a Natural Cosmetic Skincare Product?

  • Safer: The ingredients added to the natural products are safe even if absorbed into the skin. Thus the adverse health effects are avoided by moving safer with natural skincare products.

  • Better for the Environment: The ingredients used in synthetic chemicals require laboratory preparation, which harms the living creatures that come in contact with it. But natural products forego the inclusion of such components and do not negatively impact the environment.

  • No Harm to Animals: A product is tested on animals before human usage to assess its safety and quality. This process occurs in the case of synthetic skin care products. But in the case of natural products, no living beings are harmed. Thus it follows an ethical practice.

  • Contain Beneficial Nutrients: Natural products contain natural and familiar ingredients such as apples, lemons, etc. The presence of these natural ingredients can be checked on the product's label. In addition, the vitamins and minerals added to the products benefit the skin and body function.

  • Improves Your Physical Look: The skin appears clear and bright once using natural skin care products. This improvement in physical appearance will boost your confidence. It also helps in maintaining your overall well-being.

  • No Adverse Effects: When an individual uses a synthetic product, the harsh chemicals added can cause weird side effects. But the side effects can be avoided in natural products with natural ingredients.

Conclusion:

There are synthetic and natural skin care products on trend recently. However, out of these two, natural cosmetics are chosen to be the best for various reasons. First, this is because they are found to be non-toxic and devoid of chemicals that would pose a threat to your health. Thus, please choose the right skincare products for your skin and reap its benefits.
