Could radiation therapy cause T-wave inversion?

Hi doctor,

The patient is a 65 year old, hypertensive and diabetic female with T-wave inversion V1 to V6 on ECG. ECHO and TMT have done to evaluate further, which was reported to be normal. The patient is on Metformin XR and Tazloc-H. The patient is asymptomatic. Six months back, ECG did not show these changes. She is hypertensive for 15 years and diabetic for the last 10 years. What could be the cause of these changes? Please advice.

Why do my total cholesterol and triglycerides level keep fluctuating?

Hello doctor,

My recent lipid profile showed borderline cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol is 207 mg/dL and triglycerides are 324 mg/dL. From the past seven years, my cholesterol is fluctuating. The cholesterol keeps fluctuating around 200 mg/dL and triglycerides between 180 to 300 mg/dL. My echocardiogram and TMT came back normal last year. My cardiologist told me to take Rosuvastatin 20 mg, once a day for 30 days. Should I take this medicine? For my condition, do I need to take statins or only diet control will be helpful? My troponin and homocysteine levels were normal.

Could elevated CPK value be related to malaria?

Hi doctor,

My father, who is 70 years old, was admitted in a hospital for severe weakness, high fever (105 degrees Fahrenheit), shivering and lack of appetite. Blood tests revealed that he had malaria (Vivax) and a platelet count of 44,000, which is below normal. But, there was no dengue or typhoid. He had also complained of slight pain near his heart area. It has been only for the past five days that is from the day of fever. Malaria treatment has been started already in the hospital. For heart, they did an ECG and echocardiography and the results were normal. His doctor said that my father's ECG graph was slightly different than the same 9 years back. Then, they tested for the cardiac enzyme marker CPK. Apparently, the CPK result should be in the hundreds, but it was in the thousands. So, they are suspecting a heart condition, although they are not sure about the condition. But, echocardiogram gave a normal heart without any blocks. They are thinking that at a later stage, they may do an angiogram. Could the elevated CPK value be related to the malaria attack or the treatment antibiotics for malaria? Could age (70 years) be an issue for high CPK level? Is an angiogram must now? Could the platelet count be an indication of heart problems as well as malaria? Are CPK and angiogram tests invasive? Can they be harmful at times? Do you like to state any other general point in the above case? I have no reports or any other data, so please respond on the basis of the above information. My father has two prior problems. Since a few years, he has prostatitis and slightly low blood pressure. Thank you.

Should I take BP medicine lifelong?

Hi doctor,

I am a 35 year old male. I have recently been undergoing a lot of stress in my life in spite of following a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes, I do not even sleep for eight days continuously. A few months back, I have been diagnosed with hypertension and my BP was 160/110 mmHg. My doctor prescribed me Ciplar LA and sleeping pills for 28 days. Then, my BP reduced to 120/80 mmHg. For the past two weeks, there was a fluctuation in my BP level, that is, it increases in the morning and decreases in the evening. Currently, I am taking Zolfresh 5 mg and Nexito 5 mg daily, but still cannot sleep. If I have hypertension, should I have to take BP medication for the whole life? Will it affect my sexual life? After marriage, should I tell my partner that I am taking medicine for hypertension?
