Does severe abdominal pain mean recurrent PID?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have experienced severe abdominal pain throughout the day and am currently ovulating. I have had pelvic inflammatory disease before. I have used Naproxen, but the pain persists. Kindly advise on what to do now. I cannot even get up.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I am sorry you are in this much pain. Given your history of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and current severe abdominal pain during ovulation, here is what you need to know urgently: What you need to do right now:

  1. Go to the emergency room (ER) or nearest urgent care immediately. You may need a pelvic ultrasound, blood tests, antibiotics, or other urgent treatment.
  2. Do not take more pain medications without evaluation; they may mask symptoms that doctors need to see.

  3. Do not wait this out; untreated PID, cyst rupture, or an abscess can lead to infertility or sepsis. Please seek care immediately. You can message me after you have seen it if you want to help interpret the results or treatment advice.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
