What could cause pain in the abdomen, along with nausea, vertigo, and chest pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have severe pain in the left side of my abdomen, tingling and burning pain in my left hand, and shooting pain in the side of my neck and toes. In addition, nausea, vertigo, lethargic fuzzy memory, loss of balance, sometimes a numb face, and slight chest pains. I have a history of asthma, chronic bronchitis, diverticulitis, anxiety, depression, and cysts in my ovaries.

I am currently taking Tylenol with Codeine. Please tell me, what is causing my discomfort?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Pain in the left side of the abdomen may be due to left renal calculi or left ovarian follicles, torsion ovary, or an acute attack of diverticulitis. The left face numbness and tingling of the foot may be due to compressive neuropathy or myelopathy. Codeine itself may cause dizziness and temporary loss of memory. Codeine also aggravates constipation and diverticulitis problems. Vitamin B12 deficiency or hypothyroidism may also present with memory problems with tingling and numbness in the limbs.

Please review with serum vitamin B12 level and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the whole spine with ultrasound abdomen.

I suggest the following:

  1. Avoid codeine and try to take another painkiller like Tramadol with Paracetamol.
  2. Eat a high-fiber diet, and do yoga and meditation.
  3. Drink plenty of water.
  4. Take vitamin B12 and calcium with vitamin D3 tablets.

Please follow up with the above reports or consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.
