Why do I have severe gas and belching despite treatment?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a severe gas problem, but no pain. I also have belching with reduced taste and appetite. I have been prescribed Vino 20, Itorax, and Cizaspa-X, all twice daily. Now my stomach feels hungry all the time, and I also feel very drowsy. Should I stop Cizaspa-X?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I am sorry this is causing discomfort. Severe gas, belching, reduced appetite, and constant stomach discomfort can be very frustrating, especially when the medicines themselves may also be causing new symptoms.
A constant sensation of hunger and drowsiness can sometimes occur with medications used to treat stomach motility or abdominal spasms. Cizaspa-X (a combination drug of Mebeverine 135 mg and Chlordiazepoxide 5 mg) may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or dry mouth in some people. Itopride is used to improve stomach motility and can occasionally alter hunger sensations or digestion patterns. Vonoprazan is generally used to reduce acidity.
However, prescribed medication should not be stopped abruptly without consulting the doctor who evaluated the condition, especially since this combination may have been prescribed for gastritis, acidity, functional dyspepsia, or gas-related stomach irritation.
Since unusual sleepiness and changes in symptoms have developed after starting treatment, it would be reasonable to contact the prescribing doctor to ask whether Cizaspa-X should be reduced, replaced, or discontinued. In the meantime, smaller frequent meals, avoiding oily or spicy foods, reducing tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks, and avoiding lying down immediately after eating may help.
If vomiting, black stools, significant weight loss, severe abdominal pain, persistent loss of appetite, or worsening weakness develop, prompt medical review is important because these symptoms may require further evaluation.
I hope this is clear, and if you have any questions at any time, please feel free to ask
Thank you.
