Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have oily, acne-prone skin with blemishes, along with dark spots, large open pores, and acne scars. Suggest me some topical medications, sunscreen, and moisturizer that are budget-friendly.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Based on your attached photo and history (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), you are having skin texture changes marked in active acne scars with hyperpigmentation. I can completely understand your situation and what you are going through, as these do lower one’s confidence and self-esteem.
These are all complications of acne, but do not worry, these can be managed effectively with the right step-by-step skin care routine.
For treatment, in the morning and at night, use a gentle cleanser such as a mild foaming face wash suitable for oily and acne-prone skin.
Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer such as an oil-control gel moisturizer or a sensitive skin moisturizer.
After this, apply a Kojic acid-based cream to lighten the pigmentation. Apply to the face after moisturizer and before sunscreen daily.
After this, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, even if you are indoors, as sun exposure can worsen redness and make acne marks darker. Use any oil-free broad-spectrum sunscreen suitable for acne-prone skin.
On alternate nights, apply Azelaic acid 10% cream for uneven skin tone and dark spots. The combination of Azelaic acid, Niacinamide, and Tetrahydropiperine treats bumps, lesions, and dark spots caused by acne. It fades dark spots. Apply a pea-size amount under the cover of a moisturizer to avoid irritation.
To help manage the scars, start using Adapalene gel 0.1percent. Apply daily at bedtime under a moisturizer, as it can sometimes cause dryness. This will help with acne, acne marks, and skin texture.
Avoid harsh scrubs or overwashing, as these can worsen oil production. Keep your hands off your face to reduce new breakouts. Try to maintain a consistent routine. Keep hair away from the face, change pillowcases regularly, and manage stress, as this will help reduce flares.
You will begin to notice a reduction in acne marks, scars, and pigmentation, with improvement in overall skin texture and scars.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
